The Cuckoo's Nest is committed to supporting local causes, charities and not-for-profit organizations. We regularly make donations, raise funds, and sponsor causes that matter to our customers and employees. Like most local businesses, we are tightly integrated with the communities we serve. We feel it's important to give back to the community, its people, and the many deserving local causes that enrich our daily lives.
Our charity of choice, since literally the first day we opened for business, is The Royal Ottawa Foundation For Mental Health. The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group and the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, which is the foremost provider of mental health services in Eastern Ontario. They are a fabulous organization of dedicated professionals and staff who do tremendous work to improve the lives of individuals suffering from mental illness.
We support The Royal through our annual "Shop For Mental Health" fundraiser event held at our store every year in early November. We combine the fundraiser with our customer appreciation night where we provide food & drink, shopping discounts, and great raffle prizes to our customers. In 2012, The Cuckoo's Nest received the great honour of being awarded the Retail Council of Canada's prestigious Ambassador Award, given to the Canadian independent retailer providing consistently superior customer service and support of their community. This national award recognizes community involvement as well as retail excellence, and we were very proud to receive it. You can view the press release here.
