Congratulations to the Parkdale Food Centre in Ottawa for starting up Thirteen Muesli - An Ottawa Social Enterprise!
This fantastic new program started with an anonymous donation. An entrepreneurial training program for marginalized teens under the umbrella of The Parkdale Food Centre, it teaches all aspects of developing and running a business. Guided by local business professionals, the 13 teens take turns learning to run every area of the business.
The recipes for the muesli (which are amazing!), were developed under the guidance of local chefs and are locally sourced and completely organic. They are great over yogurt, or with milk for breakfast, but my favorite is to eat them hot!
The muesli is sold at several locations in Ottawa and also used in several restaurants. My favorite place to get all 3 varieties of this fantastic muesli is right here at The Cuckoo's Nest!
All the proceeds from the sale of the muesli go to the future education of the participating teens. I had the opportunity to meet with 2 of the teens and I have to say that they are very impressive young people who have embraced the challenges of developing and running their own company, They definitely have bright futures!
You can learn more about this program and the amazing individuals involved by visiting their web site at thirteenmuesli.com and don't forget to try all three types of this fantastic muesli!
